Born in the quiet town of Medota, Illinois, and raised in the heart of San Antonio, Tx – Carolina Elizabeth Amor’s story spans continents, cultures, and callings. Today, she’s a non-traditional pre-medical student living in San Antonio, Texas, but her path to this point has been anything but linear. Her journey is one of perseverance, reinvention, and purpose.
After spending her late childhood reconnecting with her cultural heritage in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Carolina transitioned to life in San Antonio during middle school. Language barriers and cultural adjustments made for a challenging beginning, but she met those challenges head-on. At South San Antonio High School, she enrolled in an early college program, earning her Associate of Arts degree alongside her high school diploma, graduating in the top 20 of her class.
Education has always been at the core of Carolina’s identity. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a minor in Business Administration from Texas A&M University-San Antonio, where she also contributed actively to Jaguar Student Media. Her published works highlight cultural events, university life, and global issues, showcasing her versatility in AP-style journalism and digital storytelling.
Not content to stop there, Carolina began a new chapter, pivoting toward the sciences. Fueled by a deep-seated calling to serve others, she is now pursuing an Associate of Science degree in Biology/Pre-Professional studies at Palo Alto College, while simultaneously preparing for the MCAT and building her medical school application.
Her professional experience is just as dynamic. From her time as Chief of Staff at Building A Purpose, a youth development nonprofit, to her current role as a private caregiver for the elderly, Carolina has continually centered her work on service and impact. She is also an Alumna Board Member of Building A Purpose and a proud member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society.
Whether she’s coordinating events, leading community efforts, caring for clients, or painting watercolor histology slides for fun, Carolina blends curiosity with compassion. Her hobbies; photography, painting, hiking, and watching documentaries, offer balance to the intensity of pre-med life. And when she’s not studying, she’s likely taking studio photos of her niece and nephew or testing her memory by teaching newly learned material to her parents.
Carolina Amor’s story isn’t just about building a career in medicine, it’s about building a life that honors both passion and purpose. She represents a growing community of students redefining what the pre-med path looks like: diverse, non-linear, and deeply rooted in lived experience.
