Building A Purpose College Professional Connection Program 3rd Annual Kickoff

Building A Purpose continues the tradition of making a difference by kicking off their third annual College Professional Connection Program Mentor meeting on Friday, January 11 at South San Antonio High School.

BAP’s veteran mentors, along with new incoming mentors, were in attendance to share and provide their wisdom on their professions to students who are part of the South San Antonio Early College Academy.

Each mentor was able to meet with their mentees to ask about their future academic and professional plans, as well the mentees being able to associate with their mentor’s history.

Jesus Rendon, founder of Building A Purpose and former South San student, spoke to the students before they broke into their individual mentor groups.

“We are here to help you and to guide you. Some of us were here once, and now we want to help you find your purpose,” Rendon said.

After the students had their profession networking group sessions, Rendon suggested they introduce their mentors to the whole group.

One of the new CPCP mentees introduced San Antonio’s Chamber of Commerce Richard Perez as her mentor and acknowledged his advice on the significance of being a high school student.

“High school is fun. It’s only the beginning. It doesn’t matter if you are popular,” Perez told his mentees.

She also stated that she was apprehensive about BAPCPCP’s first meeting, but had a change of mind after hearing about her mentor’s story and his purpose.

“I was nervous but after meeting him, I actually really liked him.”

The meeting ended with BAP’s mentors and their future professionals taking a grand picture to start the new year.

For their Spring 2019 semester, BAP’s College Professional Connection Program’s plan is to have mentor workshops once a month. BAP mentors will have the opportunity to provide advice and guidance to their students on the CPCP program’s “Be” Phase scholarship, which will be distributed on May 2019 at the program’s end of the year event.
