Biography:

Dr. Ruth L. Ackah is a general surgery resident physician with The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Department of Surgery. Dr. Ackah was born in Port Arthur, TX. She received her undergraduate degrees in biochemistry (B.S.) and chemistry(B.S.) from the University of Texas at Austin. She then completed her medical school training, receiving her MD with certificate in biomedical ethics at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. While at Baylor, she was a research affiliate of the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery, Division of Abdominal Transplantation and the Center for Medical Ethics and Health policy where her research focused on clinical outcomes in pediatric transplantation and as well as medical ethics and health policy. Now as a general surgery resident at The Ohio State University, she is a member of the Garg Lab at Nationwide Children’s Hospital with a research focus in the investigation of congenital heart associated aneurysmal disease.

When asked about why she chooses to mentor, she states “I am excited about the journey I have embarked upon and am grateful for the opportunities afforded me. Everyday, I remind myself of the great privilege it is to be where I am and remind myself to thank those who helped me to reach this point. Thus I feel compelled to reach out to others behind me and to plant seeds of inspiration and hope for a future unseen but just beyond the horizon for the young dreamers much like myself.”
